Provost accuses sacked Osun lecturers of extortion

The Provost of the Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun, Prof. Isaac Oyewole, has said some of the workers of the institutions affected by the mass retrenchment exercise were involved in extortion of students and aiding of examination malpractices among other offences. According to a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday evening, Oyewole said this when he appeared at the House of Assembly to brief the lawmakers on why the workers were laid off. The Rector, Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Dr. Sola Agboola; the Rector, College of Technology, Esa Oke, Dr. Augustus Oke; Provost, College of Education, Ilesa, Dr. Kadiri Adegoke, also appeared before the lawmakers to defend their actions. The heads of the institutions, who justified the mass sacking of academic and non academic staff gave redundancy, inappropriate qualifications, poor academic development, declining productivity, questionable certificates, and disciplinary matters among other reasons as part of the criteria for disengaging the workers. They said that these offences were contained in the files of the affected workers.
